The Machines de l’île is one of Nantes’ most emblematic attractions, combining art, mechanics and imagination. Located on the Ile de Nantes, this unique project was built in the city’s former shipyards and attracts thousands of visitors every year.
A Fantastic Universe Inspired by Jules Verne
Designed by François Delarozière and Pierre Orefice, the Machines de l’île is inspired by the world of Jules Verne and the ingenuity of Leonardo da Vinci. This lively exhibition features a series of impressive mechanical creatures, with the centrepiece being the famous Grand Éléphant, a monumental 12-metre-high structure that carries visitors through the park.
The Great Elephant: A Unique Experience
Climb aboard the Great Elephant for an unforgettable ride. This incredible mechanical pachyderm moves through the aisles, all the while broadcasting realistic sounds: barking, blowing, and even jets of water to cool passers-by. An experience not to be missed, especially for children and thrill-seekers.
The Carrousel of the Marine Worlds
Right next to the Grand Elephant, discover the Carrousel des Mondes Marins, a giant three-storey ride that plunges visitors into the depths of the ocean. Here you can take a seat in fantastic sea creatures such as flying fish and giant squid.
The Heron Tree : A Work in Progress
The Machines de l’île are constantly reinventing themselves. One of the most eagerly awaited future projects is the Arbre aux Hérons, a monumental structure that will take the form of a metal tree 50 metres in diameter, with mechanical birds capable of carrying visitors through the air.
